Employee Spotlight: Meet Joan Henry

Joan loves banking. She’s been in the industry for nearly 20 years, eight of those at First Keystone Community Bank.

“Nothing about banking is monotonous,” Joan said. “There are so many variations to what I do that my brain is usually engaged, which allows constant learning.”

Originally from Jamaica, Joan worked in banking for 11 years in the country of her origin, only taking a break to raise her daughters. After moving to the United States, Joan joined the team at FKCB when an opportunity became available.

“I decided to go back to what I love—banking,” Joan said. “I literally enjoy learning new things and new ways of getting my job done.”

Joan started her FKCB journey as a teller, soon moving to customer support representative, commercial support specialist, and her current position as loan operations supervisor/officer for the Stroudsburg-Bethlehem regions. She feels the best part of banking is the opportunity to expand your horizons.

“First Keystone Community Bank allows the opportunity for growth once you have the interest in whatever area you desire,” Joan said. “After all, destiny does not dictate your choice; your choice creates your destiny.”

When she’s not engaging her brain at the bank, Joan can be found coaching volleyball and soccer or helping those less fortunate.

“I operate a charity in my birth country where each year we provide back-to-school supplies for over 200 children,” Joan said. “We also host a fun day with activities for the children and free meals for all, usually over 200 people. It means a lot to help those less fortunate.”

Joan also tries to stay active outside of work, engaging in tennis, pickleball, table tennis, badminton, soccer, cycling and taking long walks or jogs in the park. She also keeps her brain active, too. “I love to write. I characterize myself as an unpublished author, although I have published one book.”
