Employee Spotlight: Bonnie Nevel

When Bonnie Nevel started as a teller with First Keystone Community Bank (FKCB), she didn’t plan on making finance her career. Thirty-eight years later, Bonnie is an assistant vice president and deposit processing supervisor.

“I did not plan for a career in banking,” Bonnie said. “I needed a full-time job and wanted to stay in the area until I could figure out what I wanted to do. I soon found that I enjoyed the banking environment, so I continued to work at FKCB.”

For nearly 40 years, Bonnie has held numerous positions within the bank, leading to her current role in deposit operations, a position she relishes.

“I enjoy my current position helping my team with questions and issues that come up in order to efficiently process deposit account paperwork and assist in many other back-office job duties,” Bonnie said. “We work together to expedite workflow and ensure that the department is compliant with operating policies and procedures.”

Exploring different facets of the financial system has given Bonnie the experience to pursue the many avenues involved in banking.

“One of the reasons I appreciate the banking world is because there are so many opportunities in the industry,” Bonnie said. “You could advance to different positions within the same company.”

Bonnie took advantage of the opportunities presented at the bank and soon advanced from teller to teller supervisor, customer service representative (CSR), customer service administrator, trainer for tellers and CSRs, system support assistant and assistant cashier. In 2022, she was promoted to assistant vice president which was a pivotal point in her career.

“In addition to advancing within the company, FKCB has given me the opportunity to grow with the industry and become active in my community,” Bonnie said. “I received my General Banking diploma through the American Institute of Banking and graduated from the Leadership Central Penn in 2024. I also attended many seminars and webinars to consistently stay current in my field.”

While Bonnie appreciates her time and success at the bank, her favorite aspect of the job is building a banking relationship with customers and getting to know her co-workers.

“During my career at FKCB, I have had the privilege of working alongside many wonderful colleagues,” Bonnie said. “I learned a great deal from some truly knowledgeable employees, many of whom became good friends.”

When she’s not at work, Bonnie enjoys spending time with family, dining out, gathering with family and friends around a campfire, and traveling, especially to the beach.
